"Please call the mayor and help us get our dogs," Jaffe yelled at cars driving by city hall Thursday.
It may have been rush hour but standing on the corner, flying a sign, Jaffe hoped drivers would slow down just enough to read her plea and learn her story.
"We are having to stay temporarily in a shelter for domestic violence," she explained.
Jaffe says the family left their home for safe shelter, but didn't think their dogs would end up at Little Rock Animal Village being prepped for adoption.
"They're part of the family, we've had them for a long time, we got the one for my daughter when my first daughter was murdered for my other daughter, it's very sentimental," she said.
Her dogs, Angel and Captain have been renamed Bart and Sugar, Jaffe is being charged impound and daily hold fees, now hitting $240 and she was also cited for multiple violations for her animals not being maintained properly and could face more fines in court, money she says she doesn't have.
Jaffe says she went to the police to make sure it was legal and made her signs to stand on? the side of the road to see if she could raise the money there.
"Those are my kids, I would do whatever I had to for my kids, that was the only thing as a mom with no money that I? could think to do," she said.
After making sure it was legal to stand on the corner, Jaffe says she raised $82 in two hours and convinced animal control to wait a little while longer before putting Angel and Captain up for adoption.
"It was the only way I knew how to fight. I thought if maybe if they would listen someone in the public would and someone would see us and have mercy," she said.
The bold move bought her time, people who believed in her story gave her hope.
The city is giving Jaffe time to raise money to get her dogs out of the pound, but they can't keep the dogs too long, they need the space.
Right now she's working on finding a job and a new place to live with a yard and fence for her dogs.
